Which complex number will be plotted below the real axis and to the right of the imaginary axis?
2i − 5, 4 − i, 5 + i, -5i, -2 − i
Solution:
Complex numbers are plotted on an argand diagram or argand plane in which the real part of the complex number is taken along the horizontal axis called the real axis and the imaginary part of the complex number is taken along the vertical axis called the imaginary axis.
When a complex number is plotted on the argand plane it will be in the form of a point. Thus, any complex number of the form x+iy can be plotted as a point (x,y) in a general cartesian plane.
From the graph above we observe that the complex number 4-i will be plotted below the real axis and to the right of the imaginary axis.
Which complex number will be plotted below the real axis and to the right of the imaginary axis?
2i − 5, 4 − i, 5 + i, -5i, -2 − i
Summary:
(4 − i) will be plotted below the real axis and to the right of the imaginary axis.
