The length of a rectangle is 9.7cm more than 4 times the width. If the perimeter is 91.4cm, what are it's dimensions?
Solution:
Given,
Let us assume the width of the rectangle = x.
Then, the length of the rectangle = 4x + 9.7cm
Perimeter of the rectangle = 91.4 cm
Then,
91.4 = 2[x + 4x + 9.7]
91.4 = 2[5x + 9.7]
91.4 = 10x + 19.4
91.4 - 19.4 = 10x
10x = 72
x = 7.2cm
Width of the rectangle = 7.2cm
Length of the rectangle = 38.5cm
Therefore, the dimensions are 7.2 × 38.5 cm
