How do you find the mean of a data set?
Mean is the sum of all the items in a list or collection, divided by the number of items
Answer: We find the mean of a data set by dividing the sum of the entries by the total number of entries in that data set.
The mean data is nothing but the average of the given set
Explanation:
So, in order to find the mean of a given set, we will have to find the sum of all the entries given in our set.
Now, we will divide the sum of the entries by the total number of entries in that data set. This will give us the mean of our dataset.
Hence, Mean = Sum of all the observations / Total number of observations
Example: Find the mean of the dataset 2,7,8,3,5
We know that,
Mean = Sum of all the observations / Total number of observations
= (2 + 7 + 8 + 3 + 5) / 5
= 25/5 = 5
Thus, we can find the mean of a data set by dividing the sum of the entries by the total number of entries in that data set.
