xm × xn = xm + n, where x is a non-zero rational number and m,n are positive integers. State whether the given statement is true or false
Solution:
Given, x is a non-zero rational number
m and n are positive integers
xm × xn = xm + n
We have to determine if the given statement is true or false.
For any non-zero integers ‘a’ and ‘b’ and whole numbers m and n,
am × an = am+n
Here, a = x
Now, am + n = xm + n
So, xm × xn = xm + n
Therefore, the given statement is true.
✦ Try This: pm ÷ qm = (p ÷ q)m, where p and q are non-zero rational numbers and m is a positive integer. State whether the given statement is true or false
