x + y/2 is a rational number
(a) Between x and y
(b) Less than x and y both
(c) Greater than x and y both
(d) Less than x but greater than y
Solution:
Given expression x + y/2
This expression is for finding average value of x, y
We know that the average value, mean always lie between the two numbers
Therefore, the x + y/2 lies between x, y
To find a rational number between ½ and ¼ we can take the average of both and arrive at it.
(½ +¼)/2 = (¾) × (½)=⅜. Thus ⅜ is between ½ and ¼.
✦ Try This: 3 + 2/2 is a rational number (a) Between 3 and 2, (b) Less than 3 and 2 both, (c) Greater than 3 and 2 both, (d) Less than 3 but greater than 2
3 + 2/2 = 5/2 = 2.5
2.5 lies between 3 and 2.
