Write the number of seconds in scientific notation
Solution:
Given, the table represents the value in seconds
We have to express it in scientific notation
1 minute = 60
= 6 × 10¹
1 hour = 3600
= 36 × 10²
= 3.6 × 10² × 10¹
For any non-zero integers ‘a’ and ‘b’ and whole numbers m and n,
am × an = am+n
= 3.6 × 102 + 1
= 3.6 × 10³
1 day = 86400
= 864 × 10²
= 8.64 × 10² × 10²
= 8.64 × 102 + 2
= 8.64 × 10⁴
1 month = 2600000
= 26 × 10⁵
= 2.6 × 10¹ × 10⁵
= 2.6 × 101 + 5
= 2.6 × 10⁶
1 year = 32000000
= 32 × 10⁶
= 3.2 × 10¹ × 10⁶
= 3.2 × 101 + 6
= 3.2 × 10⁷
10 years = 320000000
= 32 × 10⁷
= 3.2 × 10¹ × 10⁷
= 3.2 × 101 + 7
= 3.2 × 10⁸
