Write the following statement in the form of algebraic expression and write whether it is monomial, binomial or trinomial. x is multiplied by itself and then added to the product of x and y
Solution:
Given, x is multiplied by itself and then added to the product of x and y.
We have to express the statement in algebraic form and classify it.
x is multiplied by itself = x × x
= x²
Product of x and y = x × y
= xy
Now, x is multiplied by itself and then added to the product of x and y = x² + xy
Therefore, the algebraic expression is x² + xy
The expression contains two unlike terms.
Expression with two unlike terms is called a 'Binomial’
Therefore, x² + xy is a binomial.
