Write the following statement in the form of algebraic expression and write whether it is monomial, binomial or trinomial. Perimeter of an equilateral triangle of side x
Solution:
Given, perimeter of an equilateral triangle of side x.
We have to express the statement in algebraic form and classify it.
Perimeter is the total length of the boundary of any closed shape.
Perimeter = sum of all sides
An equilateral triangle is a triangle in which all the three sides are equal in length.
Given, side of equilateral triangle = x
So, perimeter of equilateral triangle = x + x + x
= 3x
Therefore, the algebraic expression is 3x.
The expression contains one term.
Expression with one term is called a 'Monomial’.
Therefore, 3x is a monomial.
