Write the following statement in the form of algebraic expression and write whether it is monomial, binomial or trinomial. Perimeter of a rectangle with length p and breadth q
Solution:
Given, perimeter of a rectangle with length p and breadth q.
We have to express the statement in algebraic form and classify it.
Perimeter is the total length of the boundary of any closed shape.
Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(length + breadth)
Given, length = p
Breadth = q
So, perimeter of rectangle = 2(p + q)
= 2p + 2q
Therefore, the algebraic expression is 2p + 2q.
The expression contains two unlike terms.
Expression with two unlike terms is called a 'Binomial’.
Therefore, 2p + 2q is a binomial.
