Which of the following statements is always true
(a) (x - y)/2 is a rational number between x and y
(b) (x + y)/2 is a rational number between x and y
(c) (x × y)/2 is a rational number between x and y
(d) (x ÷ y)/2 is a rational number between x and y
Solution:
Given expression x + y/2
This expression is for finding average value of x, y
We know that the average value, mean always lie between the two numbers
Therefore, the x + y/2 is a rational number that lies between x,y.
Between ⅓ and ¼, we have (⅓ + ¼)/2 = 7/12 × ½ = 7/24
✦ Try This: 3 + 2/2 is a rational number (a) Between 3 and 2, (b) Less than 3 and 2 both, (c) Greater than 3 and 2 both, (d) Less than 3 but greater than 2
3 + 2/2 = 5/2 = 2.5
2.5 lies between 3 and 2.
