Solution:
Given, 1 cm worms are sent through these hook ups
We have to find the length of the worm.
From the figure,
Machine 1, Input = 1 cm
Work done = 2⁻¹
Using the law of exponents,
a⁻ⁿ = 1/aⁿ
So, 2⁻¹ = 1/2
Output = 1 × 1/2
= 1/2 cm
Machine 2, Input = 1/2 cm
Work done = 2⁻²
Using the law of exponents,
a⁻ⁿ = 1/aⁿ
So, 2⁻² = 1/2²
Output = 1/2 × 1/4
= 1/8 cm
Therefore, 1 cm worms sent through these hook-ups become 1/8 cm in length.
