Volume of a cylinder with radius h and height r is __________.
Solution:
A cylinder can be looked upon as circles placed above each other. If the height of the cylinder is h then the volume of the cylinder will be
Volume of Cylinder(V) = area of the circle × height
V = πr² × h
V = πh²r
✦ Try This: The volume of the cylinder which fits a cube of edge ‘a’ then the volume of the cylinder is ___________.
The diagram below shows a cylinder exactly fitting a cube of edge ‘a’.
If the cylinder exactly fits the cube of side ‘a’ implies
The diameter of the cylinder = a
Therefore the radius of the cylinder = a/2
Since the cylinder exactly fits the cube the cylinder,
The height of the cylinder = a
The volume of the cylinder = πa²(a) = πa³
The volume of the cylinder which fits a cube of edge ‘a’ then the volume of the cylinder is πa³
