Use a ruler to measure the distance in cm between the places joined by dotted lines. If the map has been drawn using the scale 1 cm :10 km, find the actual distances between
(1) School and Library
(2) College and Complex
(3) House and School
Solution:
(1) From the figure
Distance between school and library = 6 cm
Actual distance = 6 x 10 = 60 km
(2) From the figure
Distance between college and complex = 2 cm
Actual distance = 2 x 10 = 20 km
(3) From the figure
Distance between house and school = 3.5 cm
Actual distance = 3.5 x 10 = 35 km
Therefore, the actual distances between school and library is 60 km, college and complex is 20 km and house and school is 3.5 cm.
