To solve this question, first, find out the total number of outcomes and all the possible outcomes. Now, to find the probability use the formula given below:
Probability = Number of possible outcomes / Total number of outcomes
Total outcomes = 5 × 5 = 25
(i) Number of possible outcomes that both will visit the shop on the same day = (T, T), (W, W), (Th, Th), (F, F), (S, S) = 5
The probability that both will visit the shop on the same day = Number of possible outcomes / Total number of outcomes
= 5/25
= 1/5
(ii) Number of possible outcomes that both will visit the shop on consecutive days = (T, W), (W, Th), (Th, F), (F, S) or (W, T), (Th, W), (F, Th), (S, F) = 8
The probability that both will visit the shop on consecutive days = Number of possible outcomes / Total number of outcomes
= 8/25
(iii) The probability that both will visit the shop on the same day = 1/5 [found in (i)]
The probability that both will visit the shop on different days = 1 - 5/25
= 20/25
= 4/5
