The table shows the time four elevators take to travel various distances. Find which elevator is fastest and which is slowest.
Distance(m) Time(sec)
Elevator - A 435 29
Elevator - B 448 28
Elevator - C 130 10
Elevator - D 85 5
How much distance will be travelled by elevators B and C separately in 140 sec? Who travelled more and by how much?
Solution:
The speed of the various elevators are:
Elevator - A = 435/29 = 15 m/s
Elevator - B = 448/28 = 16 m/s
Elevator - C = 130/10 = 13 m/s
Elevator - D = 85/5 = 17 m/s
The elevator which is the fastest is Elevator - D with speed of 17 m/s
The elevator which is the slowest is Elevator - C with speed 13 m/s
Distance travelled by Elevator - B in 140 seconds = 16 × 140 = 2240 metres
Distance travelled by Elevator - C in 140 seconds = 13 × 140 = 1820 metres
✦ Try This: The table shows the time four elevators take to travel various distances. Find which elevator is fastest and which is slowest.
Distance(m) | Time(sec) | |
Elevator - A | 544 | 32 |
Elevator - B | 480 | 30 |
Elevator - C | 196 | 14 |
Elevator - D | 132 | 11 |
How much distance will be travelled by elevators B and C separately in 120 sec? Who travelled more and by how much?
The speed of the various elevators are:
Elevator - A = 544/32 = 17 m/s
Elevator - B = 480/30 = 16 m/s
Elevator - C = 196/14 = 14 m/s
Elevator - D = 132/12 = 11 m/s
The elevator which is the fastest is Elevator - A with speed of 17 m/s
The elevator which is the slowest is Elevator - D with speed 13 m/s
Distance travelled by Elevator - B in 140 seconds = 16 × 120 = 1920 metres
Distance travelled by Elevator - C in 140 seconds = 14 × 120 = 1680 metres
