The successor of 0 × (-25) is 1 × (-25)
Solution:
To answer the given problem let us first understand what the successor is. The number that comes immediately next after a number is called its successor. For example, if 1 is a number then the successor of 1 is 2. Now to prove whether the given statement ‘The successor of 0 × (-25) is 1 × (-25)’ is true or false let us solve the expressions individually.
0 × (-25) = 0
1 × (-25) = -25
But the successor of 0 is 1. Therefore the statement ‘the successor of 0 × (-25) is 1 × (-25) is a false statement.
✦ Try This: Find the predecessor of -4.
The number that comes immediately before a number is called its predecessor. The basic rule which is to be followed while finding a predecessor is that the predecessor is always 1 less than the number that is (n - 1). Now we can apply integer rules and the rule of finding a predecessor to determine the predecessor of -4.
