We know, 1 minute = 60 seconds
So, 8 minutes = 8 × 60 = 480 seconds
Now, 3 × 10⁸ = distance / 480
Distance = 480(3 × 10⁸)
= 48 × 10 × 3 × 10⁸
= 144 × 10 × 10⁸
= 1.44 × 10³ × 10⁸
Considering 10³ × 10⁸,
For any non-zero integers ‘a’ and ‘b’ and whole numbers m and n,
am × an = am + n
Here, a = 10, m = 3 and n = 8
m + n = 3 + 8
= 11
10³ × 10⁸ = 10¹¹
So, distance = 1.44 × 10¹¹
Therefore, the distance in standard form is 1.44 × 10¹¹.
