The simple interest on a certain sum for 8 years at 12 per cent per annum is ₹3120 more than the simple interest on the same sum for 5 years at 14 per cent per annum. Find the sum
Solution:
The simple interest on a certain sum for 8 years at 12 per cent per annum is ₹3120 more than the simple interest on the same sum for 5 years at 14 per cent per annum.
We have to find the sum.
We know, I = P × R × T/100
Let the sum be P
According to the question,
P × 12 × 8/100 = 3120 + P × 14 × 5/100
96P/100 = 3120 + 70P/100
96P/100 - 70P/100 = 3120
P/100 (96 - 70) = 3120
P/100 (26) = 3120
P/100 = 3120/26
P/100 = 120
P = 120(100)
P = ₹12000
Therefore, the sum is ₹12,000.
