The simple interest on a certain sum for 2.5 years at 12 per cent per annum is ₹300 less than the simple interest on the same sum for 4.5 years at 8 per cent per annum. Find the sum.
Solution:
The simple interest on a certain sum for 2.5 years at 12 per cent per annum is ₹300 less than the simple interest on the same sum for 4.5 years at 8 per cent per annum.
We have to find the sum.
We know, I = P × R × T/100
Let the sum be P
According to the question,
P×8×4.5/100 - 300 = P × 12 × 2.5/100
36P/100 - 300 = 30P/100
36P/100 - 30P/100 = 300
P/100 (36 - 30) = 300
P/100 (6) = 300
P/100 = 300/6
P/100 = 50
P = 50(100)
P = ₹5000
Therefore, the sum is ₹5,000.
