The present age of father is four times the age of his son. After 10 years, age of father will become three times the age of his son. Find their present ages.
Solution:
Given, the present age of the father is four times the age of his son.
After 10 years, the age of the father will become three times the age of his son.
We have to find the present age of the father and the son.
Let the present age of the son be x.
The present age of the father = 4x
After 10 years,
Age of son = 10 + x
Age of father = 10 + 4x
According to the question,
10 + 4x = 3(10 + x)
10 + 4x = 30 + 3x
On grouping common terms,
4x - 3x = 30 - 10
x = 20
Now, 4x = 4(20) = 80
Therefore, the present ages of the father and son are 20 years and 80 years.
