Solution:
The figure represents the plan and measurement for a house.
The house is surrounded by a path 1 m wide.
We have to find the cost of paving with bricks at a rate of ₹120 per m².
Area of rectangle = length × breadth
Considering rectangle PQRS,
Length = 1 + 4 + 2.5 + 4 + 1
= 10 + 2.5
= 12.5 m
Breadth = 1 + 3 + 3 + 1
= 2 + 6
= 8 m
Area of rectangle PQRS = 12.5(8)
= 100 m²
Considering rectangle ADFH,
Length = 4 + 2.5 + 4 = 10.5 m
Breadth = 3 + 3 = 6 m
Area of rectangle ADFH = 10.5(6)
= 63 m²
Area of path = area of rectangle PQRS - area of rectangle ADFH
= 100 - 63
= 37 m²
Cost of paving 1 m² = ₹120
Cost of 37 cm² = 120 × 37
= ₹4440
Therefore, the total cost of paving is ₹4440.
