The pieces of Tangrams have been rearranged to make the given shape.
By observing the given shape, answer the following questions:
What percentage of total has been coloured? (i) Red (R) = _________ (ii) Blue (B) = ________ (iii) Green (G) = _______
Check that the sum of all the percentages calculated above should be 100.
If we rearrange the same pieces to form some other shape, will the percentage of colours change
Solution:
The figure represents the colours of the pieces of Tangrams rearranged to make the given shape.
Red colour = 3(1/8) = 3/8
Green colour = 2(1/16) = 1/8
Blue colour = 2(1/4) = 1/2
Total colour = 3/8 + 1/8 + 1/2
= (3 + 1 + 4)/8
= 8/8
= 1
(i) Percentage of red colour = (3/8)/1 × 100
= 300/8
= 37.5%
(ii) Percentage of blue colour = (1/2) × 100
= 100/2
= 50%
(iii) Percentage of green colour = (1/8) × 100
= 100/8
= 12.5%
Percentage of all colours = percentage of red colour + percentage of green colour + percentage of blue colour
= 37.5 + 12.5 + 50
= 100%
Therefore, the total percentage of all colours is 100%
On rearranging the pieces to form another shape, only the parts or pieces will get changed but the colours will remain unchanged.
Therefore, the percentage of colours will not change.
