The number of workers and the time to complete a job is a case of direct proportion. State whether the statement is true (T) or false (F)
Solution:
The statement is False.
The more the number of workers the time taken to complete the job is lesser. Similarly lesser the number of workers more will be the time taken. Stated Mathematically:
Time Taken(T) to complete a job ∝ 1/N(number of workers)
T ∝ 1/N
TN = k = constant of proportionality
✦ Try This: 25 workers finish a job in 8 days. If 5 more workers join then time taken to finish the job will be 6 2/3 days. Is the statement True or False?
Time Taken(T) to complete a job ∝ 1/N(number of workers)
T ∝ 1/N
TN = k = constant
Therefore:
No. of workers(N) Time Taken (T) in Days
25 8
30 x = ?
x = 8 × (25/30)
x = 8 × (5/6)
x = 4 × (5/3)
x = 20/3 or 6 2/3 days
Hence the statement is true.
