The marked price of an article when it is sold for Rs 880 after a discount of 12% is _________
Solution:
Let the Marked Price = x
The discount is always given on the Marked Price.
Discount % = 12%
Therefore,
Marked Price - Discount = Selling price
x - 12%x = 880
x - 0.12x = 880
0.88x = 880
x = 880/0.88
x = (880 × 100)/88
x = 1000
Hence the marked price is Rs. 1000
✦ Try this: Find the marked price if an article is sold for Rs. 1440 after a discount of 4%.
x - 4%(x) = 1440
x - 0.04x = 1440
0.96x = 1440
x = 1440/0.96
x = (1440× 100)/96
x = [1440/(16 × 6)] × 100
x = [90/6] × 100
x = 15 × 100
Marked Price = x = Rs. 1500
