The foot of a ladder is 6 m away from its wall and its top reaches a window 8 m above the ground. Find the length of the ladder.
Solution:
Given, the foot of a ladder is 6 m away from its wall.
The top of the ladder reaches a window 8 m above the ground.
We have to find the length of the ladder.
According to the question,
Distance between the top of ladder to the ground, AB = 8 m
Distance between foot of the ladder to the bottom of wall, BC = 6 m
In right angled triangle ABC,
AC² = AB² + BC²
AC² = 8² + 6²
AC² = 64 + 36
AC² = 100
Taking square root,
AC = 10 m
Therefore, the length of the ladder is 10 m.
