The area of a square is 9x² + 24xy + 16y². Find the side of the square.
Solution:
Area of a square = (side) × (side) = (side)²
Given area of the square is 9x² + 24xy + 16y²
∴ Area of the square, 9x² + 24xy + 16y² = (side)²
Side = √(9x² + 24xy + 16y²)
= √[(3x)² + 2(3x)(4y) + (4y)²]
= √(3x + 4y)²
= (3x + 4y)
∴ Side of the square is (3x + 4y).
✦ Try This: The area of a square is 81x² +90xy + 25y². Find the side of the square
Area of a square = (side) × (side) = (side)²
Given area of the square is 81x² + 90xy + 25y²
∴ Area of the square, 81x² + 90xy + 25y² = (side)²
Side = √(81x² + 90xy + 25y²)
= √[(9x)² + 2(9x)(5y) + (5y)²]
= √(9x + 5y)²
= (9x + 5y)
∴ Side of the square is (9x + 5y).
