Taking x = -4/9, y = 5/12 and z = 7/18, find: the rational number which when added to z gives us x.
Solution:
It is given that
x = -4/9, y = 5/12 and z = 7/18
Now by adding z to A to give x
A + z = x
Substituting the values
A + 7/18 = -4/9
We can write it as
A = -4/9 - 7/18
LCM of 9 and 18 is 18
A = (-4 × 2 - 7 × 1)/18
A = (-8 - 7)/18
A = -15/18
A = -5/6
Therefore, the rational number which when added to z gives us x is -5/6.
