Given, sum of two rational numbers is always a rational number
We have to determine if the given statement is true or false
Consider two rational numbers 2/3 and 4/5
Sum of two numbers = 2/3 + 4/5
= [2(5) + 4(3)]/3(5)
= (10 + 12)/15
= 22/15
22/15 is a rational number.
Consider two rational numbers 2/3 and 1/3
Here, the denominators are same
Sum of two numbers = 2/3 + 1/3
= (2 + 1)/3
= 3/3
= 1/1
1/1 is also a rational number
Therefore, the given statement is true.
