Study the bar graph given below and answer the questions that follow :
(a) What information is depicted from the bar graph?
(b) In which subject is the student very good?
(c) Calculate the average marks of the student.
(d) If 75 and above marks denote a distinction, then name the subjects in which the student got distinction.
(e) Calculate the percentage of marks the student got out of 500.
Solution:
Given, the graph represents the marks obtained by a student in different subjects.
(a) We have to find the information depicted from the bar graph.
The bar graph depicts the marks obtained by a student out of 100 in five different subjects.
(b) We have to find the subject in which the student is very good.
From the graph, we observe that the highest marks scored is 82
The student is very good in Maths
(c) We have to calculate the average marks of the student
Average marks = sum of marks in every subject / number of subjects
Sum of marks = 64 + 75 + 82 + 71 + 49 = 341
Number of subjects = 5
Average marks = 341/5 = 68.2
(d) We have to find the subject in which the student got distinction, if 75 and above marks denote a distinction.
From the graph,
Marks scored in hindi = 75
Marks scored in maths = 82
The student got distinction in hindi and maths.
(e) We have to calculate the percentage of marks the student got out of 500.
Sum of marks in every subject = 64 + 75 + 82 + 71 + 49 = 341
Percentage of marks = sum of marks/total marks × 100
= 341/500 × 100
= 341/5
= 68.2%
