Study the bar graph given below and answer the questions that follow.
(a) What information does the above bar graph represent?
(b) In which year was production the least?
(c) After which year was the maximum rise in production?
(d) Find the average production of rice during the 5 years.
(e) Find the difference of rice production between 2006 and 2008.
Solution:
Given, the bar graph represents the production of rice by a country in particular years.
(a) We have to find the information depicted by the above graph.
The bar graph represents the production of rice by a country in Million Tonnes during the years 2005 to 2009.
(b) We have to find the year which has the least production.
From the graph, we observe that the year 2006 has the least production
(c) We have to find the year which has the maximum rise in production.
From the graph, we observe that the year 2007 has the maximum rise in production.
(d) We have to find the average production of rice during the 5 years.
Average production during the 5 years = sum of production in 5 years / total number of years
Sum of production in 5 years = 50 + 40 + 70 + 50 + 60 = 270
Total number of years = 5
Average production = 270/5 = 54 million tonnes
(e) We have to find the difference of rice production between 2006 and 2008.
Production of rice in 2006 = 40 million tonnes
Production of rice in 2008 = 50 million tonnes
Difference of production = 50 - 40 = 10 million tonnes
