Sonu and Raj have to collect different kinds of leaves for a science project. They go to a park where Sonu collects 12 leaves and Raj collects x leaves. After some time Sonu loses 3 leaves and Raj collects 2x leaves. Write an algebraic expression to find the total number of leaves collected by both of them
Solution:
Given, Sonu and Raj have to collect different kinds of leaves for a science project
Both went to a park and collected leaves.
Sonu collects 12 leaves and Raj collects x leaves.
After some time, Sonu loses 3 leaves and Raj collects 2x leaves.
We have to write an algebraic expression to find the total number of leaves collected by both of them.
At first Sonu collected 12 leaves.
After some time Sonu lost 3 leaves
Total number of leaves with Somu = 12 - 3
= 9
At first Raj collected x leaves.
After some time Raj collected 2x leaves
Total number of leaves with Raj = x + 2x
= 3x
Required expression = total number of leaves with Somu and Raj
= 9 + 3x
Therefore, the algebraic expression is 9 + 3x.
✦ Try This: Sam and Ram have to collect different kinds of roots for a science project. They go to a park where Sam collects 10 roots and Ram collects y roots. After some time Sam collects 2 roots and Ram loses 2 roots. Write an algebraic expression to find the total number of roots collected by both of them
