Solve the linear equation: x + 7 - 8x/3 = 17/6 - 5x/2
Solution:
x + 7 - 8x/3 = 17/6 - 5x/2
Multiply both sides by the LCM of the denominators to get rid of fractional denominator.
Now transpose variables to one side and constants to another side to form a linear equation.
x + 7 - 8x/3 = 17/6 - 5x/2
LCM of the denominators is 6
Multiply the LCM on both sides
⇒ 6(x + 7 - 8x/3) = 6(17/6 - 5x/2)
⇒ 6x + 42 - 16x = 17 - 15x
⇒ 6x - 16x + 15x = 17 - 42
⇒ 5x = - 25
Therefore,
x = - 25/5 = -5
