Solve the linear equation: (x - 5)/3 = (x - 3)/5
Solution:
(x - 5)/3 = (x - 3)/5
Multiply both sides by the LCM of the denominators to get rid of fractional denominator.
Now transpose variables to one side and constants to another side to form a linear equation.
(x - 5) / 3 = (x - 3) / 5
LCM of the denominators is 15
Multiply the LCM on both sides
⇒ 15[(x - 5)/3] = 15[(x - 3)/5]
⇒ 5x - 25 = 3x - 9
⇒ 2x = 16
Hence,
x = 16/2 = 8
