Solve the following equation and check your result: 8x + 4 = 3(x - 1) + 7
Solution:
A mathematical equation that represents the relationship between two expressions on either side of the equal sign (=) is a Simple Equation. An equation consists of variables and numerical constants.
8x + 4 = 3(x - 1) + 7
⇒ 8x + 4 = 3x + 3(-1) + 7 [Using distributive property on RHS]
⇒ 8x + 4 = 3x - 3 + 7
⇒ 8x + 4 = 3x + 4
Simplifying further,
8x = 3x + 4 - 4
⇒ 8x = 3x
⇒ 5x = 0
Therefore, the value of x = 0
