Solve : 5(x - 1) - 2(x + 8) = 0
Solution:
Given, the equation is 5(x - 1) - 2(x + 8) = 0
We have to solve the equation
On solving the equation for x,
5(x - 1) - 2(x + 8) = 0
5(x) - 5(1) - 2(x) - 2(8) = 0
5x - 5 - 2x - 16 = 0
By grouping of common terms,
5x - 2x - 5 - 16 = 0
(5 - 2)x - 5 - 16 = 0
3x - 21 = 0
By transposing,
3x = 21
x = 21/3
x = 7
Therefore, the value of x is 7.
