Solve : (2y - 3)/4 - (3y - 5)/2 = y + 3/4
Solution:
Given, the equation is (2y - 3)/4 - (3y - 5)/2 = y + 3/4
We have to solve the equation
On solving the equation for y,
(2y - 3)/4 - (3y - 5)/2 = y + 3/4
2y/4 - 3/4 - 3y/2 + 5/2 = y + 3/4
y/2 - 3y/2 - 3/4 + 5/2 = y + 3/4
y(1/2 - 3/2) + (-6 + 20)/8 = y + 3/4
y(-2/2) + 14/8 = y + 3/4
-y + 7/4 = y + 3/4
By transposing,
-y - y = 3/4 - 7/4
-2y = (3 - 7)/4
-2y = -4/4
-2y = -1
2y = 1
y = 1/2
Therefore, the value of y is 1/2.
✦ Try This: Solve : (y - 2)/3 - (2y - 6)/3 = 2y + 5/6
