Simplify: [(-2)³ × (-2)⁷] / (3 × 4⁶)
Solution:
Given, [(-2)³ × (-2)⁷] / (3 × 4⁶), using the exponent law an × am = am + n
⇒ (-2)10 / (3 × (2²)⁶) = (-1)10(2)10 / [3 × (2)12]
= (1) / [3 × (2)12 - 10] using the exponent law an / am = 1 / am - n
= 1/12
✦ Try This: Simplify: [ (3)10 × (2)-12] / [ (3)8 × (2)-14]
Given, [ (3)10 × (2)-12] / [ (3)8 × (2)-14]
Using the identities, an / am = an - m
[(3)10 - 8 × (2)-12 + 14] = (3)² × (2)², using the identity am × bm = (ab)m
= (3 × 2)² = 6² = 36
