Refer to Example 5, Section 14.4, Chapter 14. Find the probability that a student of the class was born in August.
Solution:
Probability of an event, P(E) = Number of occurrences where the event takes place / Total number of occurrences
The probability that a student was born in a certain month is given by the ratio of students born in a certain month and the total number of students born
The total number of students in class = 40
Number of students born in August = 6
Probability of students born in August = Number of students born in August / Total number of students in class
= 6 / 40
= 3 / 20
