Solution:

When we add any two rational numbers, the sum is a rational number. 1/2 + 1/3 = 5/6

When we multiply two rational numbers, their product is a rational number. 1/2 × 1/3 = 1/6

Similarly, when we subtract any two rational numbers, the difference also is a rational number. 1/2 - 1/3 = 1/6

Thus we conclude that rational numbers are closed under addition, subtraction and multiplication.

Solution:5 (3/4) - 3 (5/7)

= 23/4 - 26/7

= 57/28 = 2 (1/28)
