Solution:
The number of solid dots in Pattern A = 4
Number of hollow dots in Pattern A = 2
The Ratio of hollow dots to solid dots = 2/4 = 1/2
The number of solid dots in Pattern B = 16
Number of hollow dots in Pattern B = 8
The Ratio of Hollow dots to solid dots = 8/16 = 1/2
Therefore the constant of proportion is k = 1/2 in both patterns A and B
