Out of a pair of complementary angles, one is two-third of the other. Find the angles.
Solution:
Given, Out of a pair of complementary angles, one is two-third of the other.
We have to find the angles.
Let one angle be x
Other angle = (2/3)x
When the sum of the measures of two angles is 90°, the angles are called complementary angles.
So, x + 2/3 x = 90°
[(3 + 2)/3]x = 90°
(5/3)x = 90°
5x = 90°(3)
x = 270°/5
x = 54°
Other angle = (2/3)(54°)
= 2(18°)
= 36°
Therefore, the angles are 54° and 36°.
