Observe the following nutritional chart carefully:
Food Item (Per Unit = 100g) Carbohydrates
Rajma 60g
Cabbage 5g
Potato 22g
Carrot 11g
Tomato 4g
Apples 14g
Write an algebraic expression for the amount of carbohydrates in ‘g’ for y units of potatoes and 2 units of rajma
Solution:
Given, the chart represents the amount of carbohydrates of each food.
We have to write an algebraic expression for the amount of carbohydrates in ‘g’ for 2x units tomatoes and y units apples.
From the table,
One unit of tomatoes contains 4g of carbohydrates
So, 2x units of tomatoes contains (2x×4)g of carbohydrates
Carbohydrates in y units of tomatoes = 8x g
One unit of apple contains 14 g of carbohydrates
So, y units of apples contains (14×y)g of carbohydrates
Carbohydrates in 2 units of apples = 14y g
Algebraic expression for 2x units of tomatoes and y units of apples = 8x + 14y
Therefore, the required expression is 8x + 14y.
✦ Try This: If A = x² + x + 1, B = 4x² - 3x + 2 and C = x² - 4x + 6, then find A - B - C
