NCERT solutions for Class 11 maths Chapter 11 exercise 11.3 Conic Sections helps the students explore another curve here, known as the ‘ellipse’. The collection of all points in a plane whose distances from two fixed points in the plane add up to a constant is called an ellipse. The two fixed points are referred to as the ‘foci’ of the ellipse. The NCERT solutions Class 11 maths Chapter 11 exercise 11.3 consists of 20 questions.

Moving further this chapter covers the relationship between the semi-major axis, semi-minor axis, and what is the distance of the focus if calculated from the center of the ellipse. The students will come across a new term called the eccentricity of an ellipse, which is defined as the ratio of the distances between the center of an ellipse to any of its foci or vertices.

This section of the chapter also has the derivation of the standard equation of ellipse which is explained in detail: x²/b² + y²/a² = 1
