Multiply and reduce to lowest term (if possible):
i) 2/3 × \(2{\Large\frac{2}{3}}\)
ii) 2/7 × 7/9
iii) 3/8 × 6/4
iv) 9/5 × 3/5
v) 1/3 × 15/8
vi) 11/2 × 3/10
vii) 4/5 × 12/7
Solution:
A fraction is equal parts of a whole thing. Where numerator represents the number of equal parts and denominator represents equal parts of whole thing.
To find the product by we will multiply numerator with numerator and denominator with denominator.
Here first we will change the mixed fraction into an improper fraction.
i) 2/3 × \(2{\Large\frac{2}{3}}\)
= 2/3 × 8/3
= 16/9 (improper fracrtion)
Converting 16/9 into mixed fraction, we get = \(1{\Large\frac{7}{9}}\)
ii) 2/7 × 7/9
= 14/63 (By simplifying the and reducing it to its lowest term)
= 2/9
iii) 3/8 × 6/4
= 18/32 (By simplifying the and reducing it to its lowest term)
= 9/16
iv) 9/5 × 3/5
= 27/25 (improper fraction)
Converting 27/25 into mixed fraction we get: \(1{\Large\frac{2}{25}}\)
v) 1/3 × 15/8
= 15/24 (By simplifying the and reducing it to its lowest term)
= 5/8
vi) 11/2 × 3/10
= 33/20 (improper fraction)
Converting 33/20 into mixed fraction, we get: \(1{\Large\frac{13}{20}}\)
vii) 4/5 × 12/7
= 48/35 (improper fraction)
Converting 48/35 into mixed fraction, we get: \(1{\Large\frac{13}{35}}\)
