Mean of 50 observations was found to be 80.4. But later on, it was discovered that 96 was misread as 69 at one place. Find the correct mean.
Solution:
Given, the mean of 50 observations is 80.4
It was discovered that 96 was misread as 69 at one place.
We have to find the correct mean.
Mean = sum of all observations / total number of observations
Given, mean = 80.4
Number of observation = 50
Sum of all observations = 80.4(50)
= 804(5)
= 4020
Now, correct mean = (4020 - 69 + 96) / 50
= (4116 - 69)/50
= 4047/50
= 80.94
Therefore, the correct mean is 80.94
✦ Try This: Mean of 50 observations was found to be 100. But later on, it was discovered that 56 was misread as 65 at one place. Find the correct mean.
