Match column I to column II in the following:
Column I Column II
(i) a/b ÷ a/b (a) -a/b
(ii) a/b ÷ c/d (b) -1
(iii) a/b ÷ (-1) (c) 1
(iv) a/b ÷ -a/b (d) bc/ad
(v) b/a ÷ (d/c) (e) ad/bc
Solution:
We have to match Column I to column II
Considering (a/b) ÷ (a/b),
(a/b) ÷ (a/b) = (a/b) × (b/a)
= (a × b) / (b × a)
= 1
Considering (a/b) ÷ (c/d),
(a/b) ÷ (c/d) = (a/b) × (d/c)
= (a × d) / (b × c)
= ad/bc
Considering (a/b) ÷ (-1),
(a/b) ÷ (-1) = (a/b) × 1/(-1)
= (a × 1) / b × (-1)
= a/-b
= -a/b
Considering (a/b) ÷ (-a/b),
(a/b) ÷ (a/b) = (a/b) × (b/-a)
= (a × b) / (b × (-a))
= 1/-1
= -1
Considering (b/a) ÷ (d/c),
(b/a) ÷ (d/c) = (b/a) × (c/d)
= (b × c) / (a × d)
= bc/ad
Therefore, (a/b) ÷ (a/b) = 1
(a/b) ÷ (c/d) = ad/bc
(a/b) ÷ (-1) = -a/b
(a/b) ÷ (-a/b) = -1
(b/a) ÷ (d/c) = bc/ad
