Manavi and Kuber each receives an equal allowance. The table shows the fraction of their allowance each deposits into his/her saving account and the fraction each spends at the mall. If allowance of each is Rs. 1260 find the amount left with each.
Where money goes Fraction of allowance
Manavi Kuber
Saving account 1/2 1/3
Spend at mall 1/4 3/5
Left over ? ?
Solution:
Manavi and Kuber receive equal allowance = Rs.1260 = x
As per the fraction of allowance, we have
Manavi savings = (1/2)x = 1260/2 = 630
Manavi spend at mall = (1/4)x = 1260/4 = 315
Therefore, her left over would be 1260 - 630 - 315 = Rs.315.
Similarly, Kuber savings = x/3 = 1260/3 = 420
Kuber spend at mall = 3x/5 = 3(1260)/5 = 756
So, Kuber left over = 1260 - 420 - 756 = 84
