Let D = 3, L = 7 and A = 8. Find the other digits in the sum
M A D
+ A S
+ A
B U L L
Solution:
We can write it
after putting the values
M 8 3
+ 8 S
+ 8
B U 7 7
3 + S + 8 = number ending with 7
11 + S = 17 (one carry over)
S = 6
8 + 8 + 1 = 17 (number ending with 7 and one carry over)
M + 1 = B U
M = 9
And
B = 1
U = 0
✦ Try This: Let D = 5; L = 3 and A = 6. Find the other digits in the sum
M A D
+ A S
+ A
BULL
D + S + A = Number ending in 3
5 + S + 6 = 13 (One carries over)
S = 2
6 + 6 + 1(Carry Over) = 13(One carries over)
M + 1 = BU
M = 9
B = 1
U = 0
