Language Application: Given below are few Mathematical terms.
Find the ratio of consonants to vowels in each of the terms.
Solution:
Given, the figure represents few mathematical terms.
We have to find the ratio of consonants to vowels in each of the terms.
We know, Vowels means a, e, i, o, u and consonants are letters apart from vowels.
(i) Hypotenuse
Total number of words = 10
Number of consonants = 6
Number of vowels = 4
Ratio of consonant to vowels = 6/4 = 3/2
Therefore, the required ratio is 3 : 2
(ii) Congruence
Total number of words = 10
Number of consonants = 6
Number of vowels = 4
Ratio of consonant to vowels = 6/4 = 3/2
Therefore, the required ratio is 3 : 2
(iii) Perpendicular
Total number of words = 13
Number of consonants = 8
Number of vowels = 5
Ratio of consonant to vowels = 8/5
Therefore, the required ratio is 8 : 5
(iv) Transversal
Total number of words = 11
Number of consonants = 8
Number of vowels = 3
Ratio of consonant to vowels = 8/3
Therefore, the required ratio is 8 : 3
(v) Correspondence
Total number of words = 14
Number of consonants = 9
Number of vowels = 5
Ratio of consonant to vowels = 9/5
Therefore, the required ratio is 9 : 5
