Insert a rational number and an irrational number between 2 and 3
Solution:
Given, the numbers 2 and 3.
Rational numbers are numbers which are in the form of p/q, where q is not equal to 0, p and q are integers.
Irrational numbers are numbers which are in decimal form.
To find a rational number R, we use the formula,
R = (p + q)/2
Let p = 2 and q = 3, we get,
p + q = 2 + 3
= 5
R = 5/2
R = 2.5
To find an irrational number Q, we use the formula,
Q = √pq
where p and q are not perfect squares.
Q = √2(3)
Q = √6
Q = 2.449489…
Therefore, the rational number is 2.5 and the irrational number is 2.449489….
